Buenos Aires, April 14 (NA) — Family, friends, and neighbors of Cristian Pereyra, the teacher who was murdered by police officer Matías Alejandro Vizgarra while driving for a rideshare app, will hold a march this Wednesday, one month after the crime.
We believe that preventive detention should be ordered due to the expected sentence, the risk of flight, and the possibility of obstructing the investigation due to his ties with the Police,” they stated.
“Cristian was a father to a 3-year-old daughter, a son, a brother, a teacher, and a worker. The Buenos Aires police killed a teacher,” begins the flyer for the call, which was organized after a solidarity meeting with various human rights organizations and education-related unions.
Those close to the victim confirmed to the Argentine News Agency that the gathering will take place this Wednesday, April 15, at 10:00 AM at the prosecutor's office, at the corner of Yrigoyen and Almafuerte streets, in San Justo.
“We also want it to be visible that the murderer requested to be released until the trial,” they reproached.
In this regard, it was reported that in the coming days there will be a hearing where the judge will decide the future legal process of the former police officer.
Faced with the possibility of his release, the family expressed:
“That scares us. Today we miss his absence… but also the silence,” they stated.
In the early hours of the investigation, it was established that on that March 15, Pereyra was working as a driver for the rideshare app Didi, and the last trip was requested by user Matías Vizgarra, 23 years old.
Upon analyzing the information, it was determined that he is a police officer who was in civilian clothes.
